Underworld 2 – The hot vampire

The movie Underworld 2: Evolution, which was released on DVD this week. I saw the first one and liked the movie purely for it’s entertainment value, so naturally I wanted to see the second one.

The first thing that surprised me was that all of the original actors were back. Even people that died in the first one were back for small roles in flashbacks. This help provide a good level of continuity between the films as the entire story of the Vampire and Lycan (Werewolf) struggle comes to light.

Selene (Kate Beckinsale) is back as the Death Dealer Vampire. A former Lycan hunter now turned to exposing corruption in the Vampire ranks. This is nothing new. It was all in the first film. When she came on screen in this movie, it’s pretty easy to lose the plot and just watch her move, jump, flip, and of course…kill.

Back was also her companion the Vampire/Lycan Hybrid Michael Corvin (Scott Speedman). My biggest problem with the film actually was that this character was relegated to a “wait here, it’s too dangerous role” when the whole story of both movies is about his uniqueness and power as a hybrid (the only one ever).

Other than that, it was a fun movie with good special effects that I enjoyed. Certainly worth a rental. If I owned the first one (and I have to look because I might) then I would certainly buy it. It’s worth the $15 to watch it again.
