On the air from 1985 and 1989, The Equalizer starred British actor Edward Woodward as Robert McCall, an ex-secret agent. McCall in retirement is making up for bad deeds of the past by helping those in need (not unlike the show Stingray I blogged about before) who contact him. His services were always free of charge to protect, investigate, or simply “equal” the odds.
Clients found him through a newspaper ad that said “Got a problem? Odds against you? Call the Equalizer.”
This was a spy show where the hero use off-the-shelf goods and mostly used his wits to accomplish his tasks, which was a far cry from the gadget spy heroes of the day.
What I consider one of the best theme intros of all time, the song was a hit for composer/performer Stewart Copeland, founder and former drummer of the The Police. Have a look, I’m sure you’ll agree.
