Man from Atlantis

A show that had a huge influence in my life was The Man from Atlantis starring Patrick Duffy as “Mark Harris.” I used to spend huge amounts of time swimming when I was a kid, but after seeing this show, that time probably tripled.

Something about the whole idea was amazing. A man washes up on an ocean beach almost dead and is discovered by Dr Elizabeth Merrill (I had a crush on Belinda Montgomery). She takes him to a Naval hospital and soon figures out that he has gills, webbed hands and feet, strange green eyes, and as we later learn…is the last survivor of the lost continent (he has amnesia).

They also learn he can swim faster than a dolphin, has superhuman strength, and enhanced senses such as night-vision. He can also stay out of water for limited periods of time until he gets weaker and needs to be submerged.

All-in-all, one of my top Memories posts I’ll probably ever make and even though the show was pretty lame with the storylines, it’s probably one of my all time favorites.

Check out the Wiki information. This was the first US show ever shown in China. Interesting stuff! Oh, I also had the novel and the comic books. Uber-fan.
