Want to know more about Spider-Man and where the story of the black suit originated? Well, read on and let me break down a bit of Spidey’s background.

In a comic book that I believe I still own, tucked away in a polybag somewhere was the Marvel Battle Royale called Secret Wars. During the various battles Spider-Man had his costume shredded and needed to find something to wear. He found a machine he thought was a fabric replicator, which created a black ball that engulfed his entire body. It reated to his thoughts to look like any type of clothing he wished, generated webs (so he didn’t need web-shooters), and was just darn cool.

Eventually, the Secret Wars ended and Peter found the suit was a living creature (with the help of Reed Richards), a symbiote that was using his body while he slept. Eventually he wouldn’t even be able to take it off and he couldn’t attack it since it read his mind. hile he was sleeping. Peter and Reed used sonic waves to repel the creature from Peter.

Later, the creature disguised itself as the red and blue suit and attached itself again to Peter. He used a church bell to repel the creature once again (have you seen the movie previews?)

The symbiote then found Eddie Brock who was a journalist that hated Spider-Man (Spidey foiled a story of Brock’s by accident) and the symbiote bonded with him due to mutual feelings. The two became Venom.

Venom had the same powers as Spider-Man and two extras. He knew Spider-Man’s secret identity and the symbiote could block the famous spider-sense.
