Five Reasons to watch Casino Royale

I watched Casino Royale again this weekend, which was my third viewing of the movie. I have to say it’s an excellent James Bond film and certainly one of the best of all of them (Goldfinger was a longtime favorite). Today I thought I’d share some of the reasons why.

1) Excellent Plot
I don’t mean the story is airtight. There are some stretches here and there with the plot, but at the end of the day it’s all about 100 million dollars and not about using a giant laser to carve the moon in half.

2) Bond is a Brawler
All through the movie I find myself thinking that Bond (Daniel Craig) looks more like an ultimate fighter then anything. This also conveys over into the fight scenes, which are hard a brutal.

3) Less Gadgets
Personally, I love the gadgets that are always used in the Bond films. In Casino Royale they are used very sparingly making Bond himself more of the focus. It’s a great way to re-imagine the franchise for the future.

4) The Bond Girl
Eva Green makes an excellent Bond girl and during this movie, besides looking stunning in her dress, she brings some intellect and sharp wit to the screen. Most Bond girls have been predictable and rather “blond” if you will…no matter their hair color. It’s nice to see this change.
