Smallville’s Supergirl – Laura Vandervoort

Kara is about to land in Smallville and hang out with her super-cousin Clark. The part has been given to Canadian actress Laura Vandervoort.

“She’s a combination of beauty, intelligence, a certain warmth, and great attitude,” says the show’s co-creator Al Gough. “We’ve wanted a character to shake things up. She may be Clark Kent’s cousin, but that doesn’t mean she’s going to be the obedient one!”

After the creaters of the show saw hundreds of actresses, the 22-year old beauty was given the part.

In June, Gough had stated that adding Supergirl would give the series the “mythic jolt” it needs heading in to the seventh season. The season premiere will introduce Kara, Clark’s (Tom Welling) 19-year-old cousin born on Krypton. As the daughter of Zor-El, Jor-El’s brother, Kara also has superpowers, including one that Clark has yet to develop: the ability to fly. On the more mundane side, Kara butts heads with Clark, is sweet on Jimmy Olsen (Aaron Ashmore) and draws Lex’s (Michael Rosenbaum) attention

She looks pretty great to me and I’m looking forward to seeing this new season of Smallville. They’ve been accelerating the story pace nicely.

Laura Vandervoort was born and raised in Toronto. She attended York University for Psychology and English and has a second-degree black belt in karate. Her acting experience covers the spectrum of theatre, television and movies of the week. Laura has amassed many television credits, including principal roles in the television series Sue Thomas F.B. Eye, Goosebumps, Mutant X, The Comedy Network’s The Gavin Crawford Show and a lead role in Disney’s movie of the week, Mom’s Got A Date With A Vampire. Laura recently appeared in an episode of CSI and will soon be seen in the feature film Troubled Waters and the Miramax feature The Lookout.
