Note: I’m not sure if I had this post out or not before. I had a slight hiccup and lost a few days worth of posts, which I’ve recovered.

Scifi Channel announce a bit ago that they are creating a new show called The Awesomes. I say it’s been done before.

The new animated workplace comedy The Awesomes focuses on America’s aging first superhero team as they try to get back into the limelight. Formed in the 1940s, the team has gone through a revolving roster of the world’s top heroes, gradually losing popularity as other, cooler superhero teams come into favor. Saturday Night Live’s Meyers, Shoemaker and Michaels will executive-produce.

Meet America’s 7th Best Superhero Team…The Specials.

These awesome superheroes had a movie in 2000 about their lives behind the scenes. They’re a group of misfits and oddballs. The movie shows one day in their lives as uber-fan and new member Nightbird joins the team. The try to launch an action figure toy line, deal with their leader demanding leader The Strobe, and finally disband the group an affair becomes known.

The members are:

  • Ms Indestructible (Paget Brewster)
  • The Strobe (Thomas Hayden Church)
  • Power Chick (Kelly Coffield)
  • Deadly Girl (Judy Greer)
  • Minute Man (James Gunn)
  • Alien Orphan (Sean Gunn)
  • Amok (Jamie Kennedy)
  • Nightbird (Jordan Ladd)
  • The Weevel (Rob Lowe)
  • Eight (a bunch of people)

I actually own this movie and it’s definately a “B” movie, but it’s kind of a funny, campy look at superheroes. See if you can rent it. You might enjoy it.
