Review of NBC’s Chuck

Now, just like many of you I watched the trailer for NBC’s and I though it was a zanny, campy type of comedy. “Saving the world at $11 per hour” is one of the taglines and most of what the trailer shows is a mixture of humor and action. After watching the whole thing though, I had a different take.

is actually more serious then it lets on. It had a nice mix of smart witty humor, geeky humor (World of Warcraft and computer jokes), and action. In the pilot, Chuck (played by Zachary Levy) gets an email from an old friend who’s now super-spy. The combined intellegence files of the NSA, CIA, and FBI were all encoded into images and the unwitting Chuck “downloaded” it all into his head.

Now he just “knows” things. Along the way he meets the very pretty CIA Agent Sarah Walker (Yvonne Strzechowski) and the serious as nails NSA Agent John Casey (Adam Baldwin) to help protect him and the knowledge he now has.

It’s an average, humorous nerd in this situation and it’s hilarious. Sure there are some leeway on certain things, but overall the show has a bit more serious tone then you might think. The comic relief of goofy side-kick Morgan (Joshua Gomez) is just perfect with Chuck’s persona.

I actually found it even more enjoyable then what I thought from the trailers personally, and this is one series I urge you to check out. I saw it in advance due to the NBC deal going on with Blockbuster right now. Go grab it.

I’ll definately be tuning in for this one.
