I haven’t blogged about CBS’ The Unit before, but I have to say I’m a big fan of the show, which is based on show producer Eric Haney’s book, Inside Delta Force. I read the book and enjoyed it. The show follows a secret team of U.S. Special Forces Rangers who fight terror in all forms around the world while maintaining their covers as soldiers who handle logistics on a generic military base.

David Mamet is one of the shows producers, whose credits include Wag the Dog (screenplay) and Spartan (wrote and directed) and the other producer, Shawn Ryan wrote for the acclaimed FX show The Shield.

It stars Dennis Haysbert (President Palmer in Fox’s 24) as the incredible confident and straight-to-the-point Jonas Blane, leader of the Unit. It also stars Robert Patrick (Terminator 2) and Scott Foley (Felicity and Scrubs).

Each week the team ends up doing various missions while at the same time their spouses confront different issues on the homefront. Being a big fan of the military, I can say that the technical aspects of the show are top notch and that’s probably one of the best things. It’s like a mini Tom Clancy novel every week. I just wish the would have left the original intro to the show alone.

Rating: ★★★★☆

Here’s the show’s original intro and a quick roll-call.

Team Roster:
Command Sergeant Major Jonas Blane (Dennis Haysbert) – Snake Doctor
Staff Sergeant Bob Brown (Scott Foley) – Cool Breeze
Master Sergeant Mack Gerhardt (Max Martini) - Dirt Diver
Colonel Tom Ryan (Robert Patrick) - Blue Iguana
Sergeant First Class Charles Grey (Michael Irby) – Betty Blue
Sergeant First Class Hector Williams (Demore Barnes) – Hammerhead

The Wives:
Molly Blane (Regina Taylor)
Tiffy Gerhardt (Abby Brammell)
Kim Brown (Audrey Marie Anderson)

I honestly really like every single cast member. The guys are great and the wives that support them are amazing. It’s pretty rare I like this many people in a single show.
