kidsinmindHave you ever taken your kids to see the newest movie only to regret it when they were unexpectedly exposed to sex or drug use or violence?  Sometimes, you can tell by the title.  For example, “Death-Kill 3: Revenge of the Serial Murderer Fishhook Man” might not be a good choice at the multi-plex.

Oftentimes, the ratings will tell you.  I, for one, almost never take my five-year-old to anything rated “R.”  Just kidding.

Seriously though, it isn’t enough to look at the rating these days.  Often a movie rated “PG” will have stuff in it that would make a sailor blush.

That is why I recommend all parents visit www.kids-in-mind.com, before leaving home.  The folks at this site watch all the latest movies, and give ratings that include all the sex, violence, and profanity they contain (in full detail so you can decide if it’s appropriate).  Additionally, at the end of each review are discussion items for after the movie.

For example, Halloween (2007) was the highest rated of all the movies thus far with a 10 (Sex/Nudity), 10 (Violence & Gore), and 10 (Profanity).  Obviously, a lower rating is a more family friendly rating.

You can search by name of the movie and also by rating.
