This movie Fools Gold is about a happy-go-lucky surf bum/treasure hunter named Ben Finn Finnegan (Matthew McConaughey) who is obsessed with finding the legendary 18th century Queen’s Dowry. 40 chests of treasure were lost at sea in 1715 and he wants to find it. In trying to find the treasure, Finn has wreaked his marriage to Tess Finnegan (Kate Hudson) and lost his salvage boat, Booty Calls. Just as Tess is getting her life back together and is working aboard a yacht owned by a billionaire (Donald Sutherland), Finn discovers yet another clue toward the riches. He gets himself aboard the yacht and, using his good-natured southern charm (as only Matthew has), he convinces the billionaire and his daughter to join him in the quest.

Of course he will work on rekindling his love with Tess and he even has to contend with his ex-mentor chasing the gold.
