The Wrestler is a story of a retired professional wrestler, Randy “The Ram” Robinson, as he battles his way through a bunch of smaller independent matches, trying to get back to the big time and face his former rival. It stars Mickey Rourke and Marisa Tomei and is being directed by Darren Aronofsky (The Fountain, Requiem for a Dream).
WXW would like to thank all of the great fans who helped make this past weekend’s filming of Darren Aronofsky’s “The Wrestler” so special. For two days, Hasbrouck Heights, NJ’s Pioneer Club was transformed into a multifunctional movie set. On both Friday and Saturday night, in-ring scenes featuring famed actor Mickey Rourke (9 ½ Weeks, Sin City) were filmed in front of our fantastic live crowds, creating a uniquely interactive movie making experience.
At ringside all weekend was Mickey Rourke’s trainer, 2007 WWE Hall of Famer Afa the Wild Samoan, proudly overseeing the wrestling action. In addition to the matches, several locker room scenes were filmed featuring some of your favorite WXW superstars.
Mickey is one of those actors that can make anything cool, don’t you think? When you think about it, a wrestling movie should do really well. After all…wrestling has legions of fans that follow their fake battles.
