X-Men Origins: Wolverine is ramping up and adding to it’s ranks just like the G.I. Joe movie has been doing recently. Just yesterday we had the role of the mutant Gambit cast and now we’ve got Deadpool. The most awesome Deadpool possible that is…Ryan Reynolds. He’s long been an internet fan favorite for the role and he’s perfect to play the wise-cracking mercenary.

Deadpool has a rapid-fire mouth and quick wit, but he’s also got a healing factor like Wolverine, a teleportation pack, and carried loads of deadly weapons. He could even get a spin-off movie if it comes off well..

Other Wolverine cast news is that Black Eyed Peas will.i.am will be playing Wraith, another mutant who  teleports. We also know that Sabertooth is in the movie and all of these characters are from Wolverine’s early government days with the Weapon-X program. Wasn’t there a character named Maverick? When’s he being cast?

Liev Schreiber, Danny Huston and Lynn Collins round out the cast as Victor Creed/Sabretooth, Col. William Stryker and Kayla Silver Fox, respectively.

Hugh Jackman reprises the role of Wolverine in the “X-Men” spinoff that Gavin Hood is lensing in New Zealand, Australia and New Orleans. Pic bows May 1, 2009.

David Benioff penned the script, which would reveal the origins of the Wolverine character and introduce other mutants not yet seen in the “X-Men” franchise.

Marvel has been eyeing the possibility of casting Reynolds as Deadpool, an assassin with self-healing powers, for some time with the idea of spinning off the character into his own film series should the character prove popular among moviegoers.

Fox and Marvel have also long wanted to add the card-throwing character of Gambit to the “X-Men” franchise but could never find a way to give him enough screen time among the many other mutants that have appeared in each film.

No word on Maverick but the rest of “Team-X” seems to be here. Maybe Deadpool fills in his shoes?
