Meryl Streep in Goonies 2?

Goonies is my wife’s favorite movie of all time.  Well, rumors are surfacing again that there will be a Goonies 2.  In fact, in case you missed it before (as I did), Josh Brolin was talking with Marcus Leshock recently and told him that Goonies 2 is moving forward.  In fact, all of the previous cast members have been signed.

Unfortunately, the woman who played the mean Mama Fratelli, Anne Ramsey, died back in 1988.  So, according to Josh Brolin (see for yourself in the video clip below), Meryl Streep will play the villain this time around.

Huh!  Sounds like a minor joke.   According to IMDB, Streep is in pre-production on an untitled Nancy Meyers movie with Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin.  Brolin, meanwhile, is in pre-production with the Jonah Hex movie.  He’ll play the title character.  So, they probably won’t be working on any Goonies 2 movie for a while.

The other thing Brolin didn’t mention is that the man who played Sloth, John Matuszak, died back in 1989.  This was due to heart failure, allegedly from years of steroids use (however, his sister also died at an early age due to heart failure — which points to a possible genetic defect).  Source

Still, a lot of things can happen between now and this summer.  Who knows?  I guess time will be the judge.
