Donnie Darko is one of my favorite movies.  It’s about a boy (Jake Gyllenhaal) who starts to have visions after narrowly escaping an accident.  It’s a trippy movie that also starts Patrick Swayze, and Maggie Gyllenhaal, among others.  By the way, if you are interested in seeing this, I suggest the original and not the lame Director’s Cut.

The original Darko didn’t do very well in the theater, but has become a huge cult hit.  So, it’s no surprise that the sequel is going straight to DVD.  The title is S. Darko, A Donnie Dark Tale. It is tentatively being released on April 28th.

From the official site:

The continuation of cult classic DONNIE DARKO finds now eighteen year-old classic beauty Samantha Darko (Daveigh Chase) and her rebellious best-friend Corey Richardson (Briana Evigan) in the midst of a cross-country road-trip to ‘make it big’ in Hollywood.

But their big dreams are cut short when their water pump blows outside of a tiny Utah town.

Stranded with the local teens for a few days until their car’s fixed, Sam and Corey are less than thrilled at the delay…and when an unexplained meteorite crash-lands in town that night, it soon becomes clear that there is much more at play than just a chance breakdown.

Plagued by bizarre hallucinatory dreams warning her of the universe’s eminent end, as well as grief over her own loss of family, Sam must face the demons she has fled back at home.  Aided by the unlikely town locals, Sam learns the true meaning of family and friendship, and in doing so, saves both herself and the world.
