monsters_vs_aliens12There have been a lot of mixed reviews for Monsters Vs. Aliens.  I saw it with my daughter yesterday.  I thought it was a great movie, and so did she.  You probably already know the plot.  It’s about a woman (Reese Witherspoon) who gets hit by a meteorite and become gigantic on her wedding day.  Because she is seen as a threat, she is locked up with a bunch of other monsters (Seth Rogen, Hugh Laurie, Will Arnet),   by the military.  She remains imprisoned until the world is attacked by an alien being (Rainn Wilson)  intent on destroying all humans!

The cast reads like a grocery list of A and B level stars.  In addition to the above cast, Kiefer Sutherland, Stephen Colbert, Paul Rudd, Jeffrey Tambor, Amy Poehler, Renee Zellweger, and others lend their voices.

Monsters Vs. Aliens is a gorgeous looking movie, especially in 3D.  The action scenes are exciting, and there is a lot of humor to it.  I felt that the Monsters and the Aliens were the best parts of the movie, by far.  The human scenes are a bit of a drag comparitively.  Though it isn’t on level with the best of Pixar, this movie is an enjoyable diversion.  It’s fun watching the monsters interact with each other, and the humans.  I especially liked B.O.B. (Rogen), who stole every scene he was in.

Total Rating: ★★★½☆
