Here is an interesting video showing Leonard Nimoy discussing the origin of the Vulcan Salute.  According to Nimoy, it’s related to a Jewish gesture.  See for yourself after the jump:

By the way, if you haven’t seen Star Trek yet, I strongly suggest you run, not walk, to your nearest theater and see it.  It’s an awesome movie.
