Dragonball is a movie based on a Japanese Anime called Dragonball Z and it stars Justin Chatwin as Goku (above), who is trying to prevent the evil Piccolo (James Marsters) from stealing dragonballs (sounds sort of dirty) and doing bad things with them (like world domination or whatever). Chow Yun-Fat and Emmy Rossum are also cast in the movie. JoBlo has a few new pictures.

Our family saw this flick in a regular theater, and nothing was lost. You could really see how amazing this would be in 3D, but 2D was pretty spectacular.

Our daughter was four- when she saw this and spent half the movie in one (or both) of our laps, or begging us to hold her ears closed while she shut her eyes. It was pretty scary to her.  She is six now and still doesn’t want to see it again.   

That’s why I think that older kids might get more of a kick out of this movie. The adults should like it too.

There are lots of cameos, and as mentioned the animation is stellar.

The direction is excellent too. I had a hard time believing this was a first time director. The whole movie moves along at a snappy pace. I don’t think that it is much over an hour forty.

Don’t get up immediately after the credits roll. They cut back several times to the story.

I want to get this in Blu-ray.  As I said some of the shots in the theater looked almost 3D.  I bet it would really pop in 1080p.  It looks pretty good on DVD though.

After seeing the poster for Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, I think kids everywhere are going to want to see the further adventures of this crazy group. Ben Stiller is a lion? That’s funny just by itself.

The more I see of Dusney/Pixar’s new movie Wall-E , the more I’m hooked on seeing it. I mean…taking the kids to see it of course. I’m not going to enjoy it at all. Oh no. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian did reasonable at the box office this weekend making over $56 million. Supposedly though, the movie had a budget of $200 million so it could mean trouble for the rest of the franchise based on the C.S. Lewis’ series of books. In case you didn’t know, here’s the rest of the books titles in the series.

High School Musical 3 is coming out. Someone just shoot me now, okay

I don’t know a thing about this new animated movie called Igor starring John Cusack, but I have to say I do like the poster. It’s certainly enough to compel me to check out this movie. It seems to have a very cool animated style to it.

“Igor” is a playfully irreverent comedy that brings a new twist to the classic monster genre. In a world filled with Mad Scientists and Evil Inventions, one talented evil scientist’s hunch-backed lab assistant has big dreams of becoming a Mad Scientist himself and winning the annual Evil Science Fair.

Here’s some really fantastic news. If you’ve never seen Avatar: The Last Airbender on Nickelodeon, I highly recommend it. it’s one of the best cartoons or animated shows (whichever) in a long time. Now M Night Shyamalan is currently working in pre-production to adapt it to a movie trilogy.

“The actual plot is in a place where there are four tribes of people. And these people each have people within their tribe that have mastery over one element: water, earth, fire or air. They all live in a balance and harmony and once every generation there is born an individual who can bend - that is manipulate - all four of those elements and thereby keep a balance between all. They are kind of a Buddha figure to some extent. The story is about how, in this particular time, this avatar is born into the airbenders and disappears. Then all hell breaks loose and the fire nation basically commits genocide and eradicates the air tribe in the hopes of killing the avatar and taking over control of everything. This child then re-emerges, which is the beginning of our story. He reappears having been frozen in the ice - there is a whole story about how that happens - a hundred years later and this world is all fucked up and he is the last airbender, but he doesn’t want this job. He’s forced into the position of putting the world back together again. It actually has a lot of Shakespearean overtones to it. There’s lots of family angst, and fathers denying sons in different storylines.”
