Katherine Heigl who plays Dr. Izzie Stevens might be killed off of NBC’s Grey’s Anatomy this next season. The writers might give her character a brain tumor because they are mad about her dropping out of Emmy contention.

Katherine Heigl could be killed off Grey’s Anatomy next season, a well-placed source tells Us Weekly in its latest issue.

The idea came after Heigl, 29, withdrew herself from Emmy contention, saying that she didn’t feel she was “given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination.”

In response to Heigl’s griping, staffers are considering giving her character, Dr. Izzie Stevens, a brain tumor.

“[Producer] Shonda [Rhimes] and the writers are [angry] at her,” the source tells Us. “It’s their way of [messing] with her. She won’t know whether she’s going to live or die.”

That’s pretty harsh, but maybe she wants out because she’s a big movie star now.

Director Robert Rodriguez is currently shopping around a television series Women In Chains that would feature his girlfriend Rose McGowan in chains behind bars. It’s a throwback idea to the old prison exploitation flicks that he and Quentin Tarantino are always spouting about.

The spec script, penned by Josh Miller and Mark Fortin, has been sent to a number of networks, including NBC and FX.

McGowan is set play one of five chained women at the center of the show, which Rodriguez is expected to direct. The two first worked together on last year’s “Planet Terror,” Rodriguez’s homage to 1970s exploitation flicks.

Women in prison just doesn’t do much for me so I’d have to pass, but if it’s your thing…then this is some great news.

The CW network is hoping to capture some of that old-school magic with a new class from Beverly Hills 90210. It’s the show that made a bunch of teens famous who all went on to do pretty much nothing. All except Brian Austin Green who’s recently earned my respect by 1) nailing Megan Fox regularly (curse him) and 2) staring in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Anyway, this new spin-off is currently in development.

Details on the project — including which if any of the characters on the original series will make the transition to the spinoff — remain sketchy.

The spinoff, which is close to getting a writer, has been put on the fast track by the network. It is expected to decide whether to order a pilot by the end of the month.

According to sources, “Beverly Hills, 90210″ creator Darren Star is not involved.

This would be the second spinoff from the series about privileged teens living in Beverly Hills, which aired on Fox from 1990-2000. The first one, the Star-created “Melrose Place,” had a successful seven-year run on Fox. It didn’t feature any major characters from “Beverly Hills.”

Source

Seriously, most of the cast went on to do some B-List stuff, well…except Jason Priestley in a bit role in on of the greatest westerns ever, Tombstone. Given that this is the CW, I don’t have high hopes for this and I don’t think even having the iconic name is going to help much.

This seems like it’s a pretty telling little tidbit from some recent interviews.

Aaron Douglas, who plays Chief Tyrol, said at the same press conference that he came across the information by chance early on and has had a little more time to process the notion. “I found out months in advance, accidentally,” he said. “I found a piece of paper lying around that I wasn’t supposed to read, but I read it anyways. And I said, ‘What the … is this?’ And [director Michael] Rymer went, ‘Oh, you’re not supposed to read that.’ … So I kept my mouth shut until it officially came out, and then I phoned [executive producer Ron Moore]. ‘What the hell is this?’”

Douglas said he didn’t like the news at first. “Because I thought you’re taking a fan favorite, a character that’s very identifiable, very human, that the fans really, really like, and you’re really marginalizing him,” he said. “So Ron spoke to me for, like, an hour and a half on the phone, and he explained the whys and the wherefores, and I was convinced at the end. Now I’ve embraced it, more than Michael has, I believe. And I don’t mind going down in history as one of the Cylon gods and one of the 12 Cylon human forms.”

Douglas also revealed a detail about the final five Cylons that had previously been kept under wraps. “The differentiation between the seven and the final five will become more clear,” he said. “We’re not like them. In all seriousness. We’re Cylon, but we’re not connected to these guys at all.”

Sci Fi

Going down in history of one of the Cylon Gods? Hmmm, I need to think on that one.

Let the speculation begin.

“Like many other serial dramas, such as ‘Lost’ or ‘The Shield,’ these series have a beginning, a middle and an end,” says an insider at Universal, the studio that produces “Galactica.”

“Right now it seems to have become fashionable for the makers of these shows to talk about how and when they want their series to end.”

I don’t know about you, but this completely sucks. Unless they don’t bring back Starbuck somehow, in which case…I think they made a BIG mistake and they are going to lose many viewers anyway.

If this week’s sudden replacement of the executive producer of “The CBS Evening News With Katie Couric” indeed signals a “Katie Crisis” - with ratings heading south and optimism wearing thin - what’s a network to do next?

When it comes to the virtues of television executives, patience usually ranks right there at the bottom, along with originality. With CBS’ nightly news broadcast averaging fewer viewers last month than interim replacement Bob Schieffer did a year ago, something has to be done.

It seems that after a brief spike, her ratings steadily dropped to 3rd place. Not a good thing in the network’s eyes, I’m sure.

As you know, I posted a bit ago about the third season of HBO’s Deadwood, which just started the other day, but it seems rumors abound that this is the last season for the show. While it’s sad news, it’s also good news. This means they will be able to end things properly so it will all play out like a really good long movie.

According to E! News, the series will wrap up the drama next year with a pair of two-hour tv movies, rather than a fourth season.

So, while I was sad to hear about that (as I sat down to watch the first of season three), I am hopeful that things will wrap up very nicely. It really is a fantastic show and one of only two television series that I have bought on DVD (do you have to ask the other one?)
