This trailer for There Will Be Blood is interesting, but it didn’t quite complete the question if I’d really like this movie or not. I imagine I would.

Of course Daniel Day-Lewis is always just freaking amazing and this seems to be no exception. He’s such and incredible actor.

Today I received an email that reminded me I haven’t posted any great old television memories in a while. This one certainly certainly hit the mark dead-on.

Just discovered your blog site and memories. I wanted to know if you remember a show from the early 70’s called,”the Bearcats” it was a turn of the centruy western about two trouble shooters working for the goverment that used a stutz bearcat to travel around on. They could take off the tires and place it on the train rails and travel from town to town just by pressing down on the accelerator and folowwing the rails. It starred Rod Taylor and Dennis Cole. It had a pilot movie called Powerkeg! which led to the series which lasted only one season. but it was great.

I darn well do remember that show (and thanks for the email!) It was during a time when I was totally into westerns and the concept was similar to having a machine gun in Camelot. The show followed on a pair of ex-soldiers in the early 1900s. It starred Rod Tayler as Hank Brackett and Dennis Cole as his partner Johnny Reach. Together they helped people out as “troubleshooters” and their fee was a signed blank check.

The great thing about this show was due to the time period it was set in, they could use technology without getting too corny like The Wild, Wild West. They had machine guns, airplanes and of course, the Stutz Bearcat car.

There’s not much around about this old show and I wasn’t able to find any video clips. It’s probably because this series only lasted a single season and then lost the ratings war. I did find a couple interesting sites. Enjoy!

Creator David Milch has just finished up “John From Cincinnati,” which is the series that took his attention away from “Deadwood.” To get “Deadwood” back up and running, Milch would have to recharge his batteries and assuming he’s interested in going back to the Black Hills, the actors would have to be rounded up again.

That’s no easy task. Many of the thesps have moved on to other shows and films. Plus, it might not be a financially wise decision to bring back the entire production.

Bummer.

Enjoy some Deadwood cast pictures just for old times sake.

Now it time for 3:10 from Yuma, which is a remake of the 1957 film of the same name that starred Glenn Ford and Van Heflin.

This however looks damn good. It’s stars Russell Crowe and Christian Bale. Check out the trailer. You won’t be sorry partner.

Ok, I just had to slide that one in.

In Arizona in the late 1800’s, infamous outlaw Ben Wade (Russell Crowe) and his vicious gang of thieves and murderers have plagued the Southern Railroad. When Wade is captured, Civil War veteran Dan Evans (Christian Bale), struggling to survive on his drought-plagued ranch, volunteers to deliver him alive to the “3:10 to Yuma”, a train that will take the killer to trial. On the trail, Evans and Wade, each from very different worlds, begin to earn each other’s respect. But with Wade’s outfit on their trail – and dangers at every turn – the mission soon becomes a violent, impossible journey toward each man’s destiny.

Writer/director Billy Ray told SCI FI Wire that he’s currently writing the script for a new version of the SF film Westworld for Warner Brothers, but added that he may not direct it. “There is no director attached,” Ray (Shattered Glass) said in an e-mail interview to promote the DVD of his film Breach. “I would resist the idea of directing it myself, not that they’ve offered it to me, because I don’t want the pressure of that kind of a budget sitting on my shoulders.”

Michael Crichton wrote and directed the original film, which was released in 1973 and starred Yul Brynner, Richard Benjamin and James Brolin. The futuristic drama cast Benjamin and Brolin as visitors to an amusement park where visitors can play out entertainment fantasies with the help of virtual reality and robots. The trouble starts when the robots begin to fight back.

As you know, I posted a bit ago about the third season of HBO’s Deadwood, which just started the other day, but it seems rumors abound that this is the last season for the show. While it’s sad news, it’s also good news. This means they will be able to end things properly so it will all play out like a really good long movie.

According to E! News, the series will wrap up the drama next year with a pair of two-hour tv movies, rather than a fourth season.

So, while I was sad to hear about that (as I sat down to watch the first of season three), I am hopeful that things will wrap up very nicely. It really is a fantastic show and one of only two television series that I have bought on DVD (do you have to ask the other one?)

This weekend in my area, the amazing HBO series Deadwood returns with it’s third season. If you’ve never seen it, both season 1 & 2 are now available on dvd. The biggest thing I have heard from people is, “why is the language so foul?” Indeed, it is…but it’s also one of the best drama shows on television.

You should understand that in this show, the town of Deadwood AND the language itself are both just as powerful as any character. The buildings speak. The muddy roads tell a tale. The spoken words are a mix of some of the most proper english you will ever hear and some of the crudest profanity. This was the wild untamed frontier, not some fancy and proper eastern city.

The power struggles taking place between those that want to hold power, and those that want to get power are pretty amazing. In that day and age though, things have a way of turning brutally violent at the drop of a hat and someone usually gets fed to Mr. Wu’s pigs.

Keep your eye on Al Swearingen especially. If there is corruption going on, then rest assured he’s involved in it somehow. The funny thing is Al really isn’t such a bad guy, he’s just misunderstood. He’s the villian you like and hate all at once.

Anyway, have a look if you can. There are only a few series that I will get so invested in, and this without a doubt is one of them. You can also go to the website and look at some trailers.
