I recently saw an episode of the A-Team on television and I realized that some of those retro shows are pretty cool and funny too. If you want to see some episodes of vintage favorites like the A-Team, Miami Vice, The Alfred Hitchcock Hour and more then check out this site.
“In 1972 a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn’t commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the A-Team.”
That’s right, the whole team will be one the big screen. John “Hannibal” Smith the leader and master of disguise, Templeton “Face” Peck the conman, H.M. Murdock the crazy pilot, and B.A. Baracus the driver/mechanic.
If no one else can direct, and if you can find him, maybe you can hire… John Singleton! Yes, the Shaft director is on for another TV show adaptation, as he confirmed the rumours that he’s set to bring BA, Face, Murdoch and Hannibal to the big screen at last.
The rumours have been flying about this project for years, but Singleton’s hiring is a big step forward. He told BlackVoices.com that he’s planning to update the show from the original premise, which had Vietnam vets on the run for a crime they didn’t commit, helping innocents while staying one step ahead of the law.
The Highwayman was some bizzaro cross between the Road Warrior and Knight Rider. It starred Sam Jones as one of the mysterious U.S. Marshals fight crimes and solve mysteries in a strange post-apocalyptic future. Each Highwayman had their own hi-tech, multi-functioned semi truck that concealed a black helicopter and a black futuristic sports car.
“There is a world, just beyond now, where reality runs a razor thin seam between fact and possibility; where the laws of the present collide with the crimes of tomorrow. Patrolling these vast outlands is a new breed of lawman, guarding the fringes of society’s frontiers, they are known simply as “Highwaymen”… and this is their story…”
It was a crazy show that ran from 1987 to 1988 and lasted 10 episodes. I remember watching it, but it was too much of a clone idea for me. It’s funny how back then we had so many shows that involved being a truckdriver. You never see that stuff anymore.
The Phoenix was a show that ran for only five episodes on ABC starting in 1982. It starred Judson Scott who is most famous for his role in Star Trek II as Khan’ second-in-command (and yes, he makes the convention rounds).
Bennu was an alien astronaut who was locked in a state of hibernation for over a thousand years when the seal on his computerized sleeping pod is broken by archaeologists in an ancient Peruvian tomb. The computer is supposed to also implant Bennu with knowledge of why he is on Earth is also destroyed by the archaeologists, so he has no understanding of his purpose.
Supposedly he was sent to Earth to wait for some great event so he would awake and save humanity. After his awakening, he is transfered to a secure government location, but escapes with the help of one of the scientists. He ends up wandering the country searching for Mira, a female like him who would have knowledge of what he is to do.
The show featured Bennu running from government agents while solving problems for people in trouble.
Bennu would absorb solar power, causing him to glow. He could use some basic heat powers (very mundane ones) and he had an advanced intellect, but that was it.

Oh man, this takes me back into the days when I wanted to be the one wearing the tight pants and fighting crime. Oh well, one out of two ain’t bad. One day I’ll fight crime.
In the meantime though, this is for all of you who are mourning the loss of Captain America. I’m sure there are many of you who don’t even know that this goodness even came out so it’s my job today to educate you.
Reb Brown played Captain America in two movies. The first was simply named Captain America in 1979 and then there was Captain America II: Death Too Soon the same year. Brown also played the loincloth covered Yor, the Hunter from the Future for those that might remember.
Now take the jump into yester-year with me and watch Captain America blast out the back of a van on a motorcycle. Yeah!
An yes, the warden guy IS Christopher Lee who played Saruman in Lord of the Rings and Count Dooku in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith
Reb Brown is actually best know to me as Blaster from Uncommon Valor, which was about a group of Vietnam War veterans the re-unite to rescue one of their own left behind during the war. It’s a great movie that stars Gene Hackman, Fred Ward (Remo Williams & Tremors), Randall ‘Tex’ Cobb (the biker in Raising Arizona), Patrick Swayze, Harold Sylvester (from a million shows), Tim Thomerson (also from a million shows), Robert Stack, and as Mrs. Wilkes…Jane Kaczmarek from Malcolm in the Middle.
One show I used to like when I was younger was The Fall Guy. I liked Lee Majors in Big Valley and The Bionic Man, so it was only natural that I ended up watching this show.
The Fall Guy was about a movie stunt man named Colt Seavers who also worked as a bounty hunter on the side. It was a campy, silly show but hey…it was the 80’s. As Colt used to say:
This is the story of one of America’s great unsung heroes. I mean you’ve seen him but you never knew who he was. You’ve cheered for him and cried for him and women have wanted to die for him. But did he ever get any credit or the girl? No! He’s what we call the “Stuntman” and the reason I’m talking so fondly about him is, well because it’s me, Colt Seaver. Anyway, picture work isn’t wall-to-wall employment so maybe you wonder how a guy keeps his head together? Well, one way is to wait by the phone and wait and wait. The other is to take an occasional job with the court system of the United States of America where a man is considered innocent until proven guilty. Unfortunately sometimes a lot of these people get out of jail on what we call bail and they’d run like hell! …and that’s where I come in. I sometimes pick up rent money trying to find them and bring them back to justice
In truth though, I was also in my teens and couldn’t help but notice one of the co-stars Heather Thomas who played sidekick Jodie Banks. I actually had this poster in my room at that time (my mom hated it).
I always wondered what happened to her since I never really saw much of her after The Fall Guy ended so I decided to Google her.
It turned out Heather Thomas had a long career. I had no idea.
