Box Office The Dark Knight Breaks Records at $155.3 Million

The Joker

The Dark Knight nailed the “Biggest Opening Weekend Ever” by hitting $155.34 million this last weekend beating Spider-Man 3, which made $151.1 million last year. It hit “Biggest Opening Day” with $67.85 million and “Biggest IMAX Opening”  with $6.2 million. Factor in an additional $40 million from overseas and it’s sitting at about $198 million for the first weekend.

It all seems pretty clear that this is the movie to see, so I’ll be going as soon as I return home in a few days.

Reviews Review: The Dark Knight

heathjoker.jpg

Let me just say that the hype is real.  The Dark Knight is one of the most amazing movies I have seen in the past few years, and the Joker is simply stunning.  With a run time of over 2.5 hours, you’d think that parts of the movie would drag a bit, but I didn’t notice.  I found myself captivated the entire time.

Batman Begins was an amazing beautiful movie.  This one is better.

I really don’t want to give away anything major.  So, instead, I give you some random thoughts:

The guy who played Batmanuel (Nestor Carbonell) from the short-lived tv show The Tick is the Mayor of Gotham.  Isn’t that funny?

I don’t think they introduced the next bad guy with this one.  Over in the Spider-Man movies, there seem to be a few waiting in the wings:  you have Dr. Connors(Lizard), JJ’s son(Man-Wolf), etc.  In Batman Begins, they introduced the Joker.  Not in Dark Knight, though.  I don’t think, anyway!  Leave a comment if you think they did introduce somebody, and I missed it.

I was informed by the cleaning crew after the movie that once the credits roll, that’s it.  Of course, he might have wanted to clean the theater for the next crowd.  I didn’t stick around to find out, because my pregnant wife had to pee, and you just don’t mess with those kind of things.

Will there be an Oscar for Ledger?  Hmmmm.  Oscars don’t seem to go to movies like this one often.  Does he deserve it?  Heck Yes he does.  This perfomance was so much different than any other I have seen of his.  Nearly every frame he is in captivates.  But am I captivated because I know I am watching the legacy of a genius?  Or am I captivated because I am caught in the story?  Hard to tell.

Total Rating: ★★★★★

I say:  Watch it in the theater more than once.  Buy it on Blu-ray.

Batman: Gotham Knight

This week the Japanese animated Batman: Gotham Knight comes out and I know there’s a big following that wants to get their Batman fix before Batman: The Dark Knight hits the screen. The clips I’ve see are very good and there is multiple animation styles that should be interesting.

Stop-LossSuperhero MovieThe RuinsSleepwalking

Other good movies this week include the war drama Stop-Loss and the wacky, zany Superhero Movie. I have no idea why I want to see that movie, but I do. I really don’t know much about The Ruins or Sleepwalking, but they both look fairly decent.

  • Batman: Gotham Knight
  • Blood Brothers
  • Fastlane: The Complete Series
  • I Dream of Jeannie: The Complete Fifth Season
  • Jake and the Fat Man: Season One, Volume One
  • Journey to the Center of the Earth
  • Monk: Season 6
  • Psych: The Complete Second Season
  • The Ruins
  • Sleepwalking
  • Stargate Atlantis: The Complete Fourth Season
  • Stop-Loss
  • Superhero Movie
  • The Tracey Fragments
  • WWE Nature Boy Ric Flair: The Definitive Coll.
  • The X-Files: Revelations

Batman Batman’s Got Milk?

Batman Got Milk

I was all excited about the new Batman: The Dark Knight movie and then this happened. Body by milk? I thought it was because someone killed his parents. i hate when the mess with the whole origins thing. It messes up the continuity.

It’s a completely slow day, what can I say?

Batman The Dark Knight New Joker Poster

The Dark Knight

Here’s another new poster for The Dark Knight showing some Heath Ledger awesomeness as the Joker. It’s going to be incredible to watch and also pretty sad knowing we’ll never get to see him again. I’ve heard many, many times that this performance is simply astounding.
