Television News HBO sucks…

HBO keeps sucking me in with cool shows and then screwing me over left and right. I’m actually really pissed.

John from Cincinnati

The lastest news is that John from Cincinnati is being cancelled. What else is new? HBO did the same thing to the amazing Deadwood when was at the end of it’s 3rd season. At that point Deadwood was my favorite show on television.

I also know that every Sopranos fan feels like they got screwed big time with how that series ended it’s 7 year run. Now John from Cincinnati, which was an interesting show in my view. I wanted to know where it was going and what was happening. Turns out…I don’t know Butchie instead.

The only and I mean ONLY show I am going to keep HBO for is Big Love. If it goes, then so does my subscription you heartless media machine.

Television News Deadwood might not return

This is some seriously bad news if it’s true. When Deadwood ended, I was crushed. It was one of the best shows on television and had a fantastic cast. I was really looking forward to the creators wrapping things up nicely.

Deadwood

Creator David Milch has just finished up “John From Cincinnati,” which is the series that took his attention away from “Deadwood.” To get “Deadwood” back up and running, Milch would have to recharge his batteries and assuming he’s interested in going back to the Black Hills, the actors would have to be rounded up again.

That’s no easy task. Many of the thesps have moved on to other shows and films. Plus, it might not be a financially wise decision to bring back the entire production.

Bummer.

Enjoy some Deadwood cast pictures just for old times sake.

What's on DVD DVD Releases for Tuesday June 12 2007

I figured posting some DVD releases would be a good thing. For the longest time, I’ve known that Tuesdays were new release days and I always was able to get the good movies. it’s much harder when you use a mail rental service though, unless you can do the Blockbuster walk-in.

I will say that when buying movies, I tend to go to Best Buy. I don’t like to endorse things much, but I’ve bought movies from all over and the best prices I get are on release week at my local store. They charge the standard $19 or so, but the week of release you get $5 off so you get the DVD for about $15 with tax. It’s always been a good deal to me.

Anyway, here are the DVD releases for Tuesday June 12, 2007:

  • Blood and Chocolate
  • Breach
  • Deadwood: The Complete Third Season (excellent series)
  • Ghost Rider
  • Hellboy Animated: Blood & Iron
  • The Hustler
  • Masters Of Horror: The Screwfly Solution
  • The Practice: Volume One
  • Primeval
  • Tyler Perry’s Daddy’s Little Girls
  • Welcome Back, Kotter: The Complete First Season

Deadwood: Headed for the End

As you know, I posted a bit ago about the third season of HBO’s Deadwood, which just started the other day, but it seems rumors abound that this is the last season for the show. While it’s sad news, it’s also good news. This means they will be able to end things properly so it will all play out like a really good long movie.

According to E! News, the series will wrap up the drama next year with a pair of two-hour tv movies, rather than a fourth season.

So, while I was sad to hear about that (as I sat down to watch the first of season three), I am hopeful that things will wrap up very nicely. It really is a fantastic show and one of only two television series that I have bought on DVD (do you have to ask the other one?)

Television Deadwood: Return of Wickedness

This weekend in my area, the amazing HBO series Deadwood returns with it’s third season. If you’ve never seen it, both season 1 & 2 are now available on dvd. The biggest thing I have heard from people is, “why is the language so foul?” Indeed, it is…but it’s also one of the best drama shows on television.

You should understand that in this show, the town of Deadwood AND the language itself are both just as powerful as any character. The buildings speak. The muddy roads tell a tale. The spoken words are a mix of some of the most proper english you will ever hear and some of the crudest profanity. This was the wild untamed frontier, not some fancy and proper eastern city.

The power struggles taking place between those that want to hold power, and those that want to get power are pretty amazing. In that day and age though, things have a way of turning brutally violent at the drop of a hat and someone usually gets fed to Mr. Wu’s pigs.

Keep your eye on Al Swearingen especially. If there is corruption going on, then rest assured he’s involved in it somehow. The funny thing is Al really isn’t such a bad guy, he’s just misunderstood. He’s the villian you like and hate all at once.

Anyway, have a look if you can. There are only a few series that I will get so invested in, and this without a doubt is one of them. You can also go to the website and look at some trailers.

Swearengen: “Even money, this’ll end in a bloodbath.”
