Martha Kent has now left the show (she went to Washington) and Jonathan Kent having passed away. Clark is now faced with having to be a mentor to his cousin Kara. This is really just to keep some family type relationships going on the show, but it could spell a possible spin-off one day for the supergirl.

Anyway, to coming up in the 6th episode of the season Kara’s mother Lara and father Zor-El will be featured in flashbacks. Kara is kidnapped by the government and injected with a kryptonite based “truth serum” that causes her to have flashbacks of a previous visit to Earth at the Kent farm.

Kara’s mother will be played by Helen Slater who played Supergirl in the movie of the same name.

Yes, you read correctly. Two Supergirls.Helen Slater, who was Supergirl in the 1984 film of the same name, will play Kara’s aunt. Kara (Clark’s superpowered cousin) of course is going to be played by Laura Vandervoort. Watch for Helen Slater during Smallville’s sixth episode of the season.

Christopher Reeve did a cameo and Dean Cain (Lois and Clark) will play a villain in the fourth episode.
