Star Trek Movie Pushed Back
Now this sucks. The writer’s strike did end right? It’s supposed to be over and still we’ve got to wait even longer for the new Star Trek movie. That’s what I heard. Will someone please tell Paramount?
Paramount is pushing back the release of J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek” from Dec. 25 to May 8, 2009, saying the pic’s gross potential is greater as a summer tentpole.
Move was part of a major reshuffling to the studio’s release calendar, as well as to DreamWorks’ release sked. A second key change: DreamWorks’ 2008 Ben Stiller summer comedy “Tropic Thunder” is moving from July 11 to Aug. 15.
Well, I guess we’ll have to wait an additional 6 months. The world could end by next May darn it. Ever hear of the Global Warming thingy?

Chris Pine Talks Star Trek
Entertainment Weekly did an interview with Chris Pine in Sundance and of course, they slipped in some questions regarding him playing a young James T. Kirk in the new Star Trek.
Well, I have to ask you about Star Trek, even though I know you’re not going to tell me anything.
Not a thing. Are you feeling any pressure to evoke William Shatner?
I actually feel the exact opposite. I think the biggest mistake I could ever do would be to try to re-create what Mr. Shatner did. There are certain qualities that Kirk has that are vital for someone who is a leader of men. And those qualities, I definitely wanted to take from what Mr. Shatner did in the original series. But my job is to take something new, to take that and build upon it, really do my own thing. I just feel no pressure when it comes to that.Is the pressure coming more from the fanboys and their off-the-charts expectations?
Yeah, sure, the Internet is not my friend in this case. Best to stay away. I can understand, I don’t have that many credits and people are very worried that their Kirk is going to be destroyed. But I can only say that we’re having a great time. J.J. [Abrams, the director] has been wonderful and the cast is phenomenal. I think what we’re doing is very special.Have you talked with Shatner?
I have not talked to Shatner. I wrote him a letter early on in the process and corresponded that way. I got a letter back from him, which is very nice. And I’ve met Mr. Nimoy a couple of times. He’s been on set and we have a couple of scenes in the film, which will be nice, and I’m excited for those.
I wonder…if…he’s going…to have…the stilted…speech…of Shatner.

Star Trek Teaser Trailer
The first teaser trailer for JJ Abram’s Star Trek is out. Well, it’s a leaked version (kind of low quality) but still…it’s exciting. Hearing Leonard Nimoy do the “Space, the final frontier…” voice over is fantastic.
Go check out the trailer over at IESB as soon as you can. It might not be up for too long.

The New Starship Enterprise
This picture has been floating around the internet recently and it’s rumored to be the new look of the Starship Enterprise NCC-1701 for J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek movie. It looks pretty good to me, but who knows? I’ve seen some pretty amazing images before that were whipped up by some uber-fan on his Macintosh after a a night of overdosing on Mountain Dew and Ho-hos.
I guess time will tell.
